Vivian Ellis: Spread A Little Happiness

Compilation album. Includes: I'm On A See-Saw; Pardon My English; Let's Lay Our Heads Together [these three from Jill Darling]; How Do You Do, Mr Right?; The Fleet's Lit Up [these two from The Fleet's Lit Up]; The Wind In The Willows [from Cochran's 1930 Revue]; Put That Down In Writing [from Out Of The Bottle]; Every Little Moment; On The Amazon; Spread A Little Happiness [these three from Mr Cinders]; Sweep [from Falling For You]; The Flies Crawled Up The Window [from Jack's The Boy]; Medley; Other People's Babies; I Will/The First Waltz [these four from Streamline]; Drop In Next Time You're Passing; Follow The Bride; Maybelle; She's My Lovely [these three from Hide and Seek]; Little Boy Blues [from Clowns In Clover]

This compilation from Pearl Records might seem much more satisfactory had not the double-CD compilation on Flapper (see review below) eclipsed it at every turn. Neither issues have anything from the musicals on which Ellis collaborated with A. P. Herbert, or from such later Ellis pieces as Listen To The Wind and And So To Bed. It is a pleasing collection, but the two-disc collection of Ellis is a much more satisfying experience. The liner notes for this are feeble.
