Follow That Girl
Book and Lyrics: Julian Slade and Dorothy Reynolds
Music: Julian Slade
Vaudeville Theatre, London, 1960
I wanted a show that would contrast and complement A Girl
Called Jo. Follow That Girl did exactly that!

All the details on the original production can be found on
the In-Depth Follow That Girl pages found on this site. Our production
featured Leigh Jones as Tom, Rosie Jenkins as Victoria, Richard
Owens as Mr. Gilchrist, Carolyn Allen as Mrs. Gilchrist, Reg
Eppey as Walter Miskin, and Marion Grimaldi recreating her original
role of Cora Miskin. Julian Slade was actively involved with
the production and was a great help and support.
We used the existing published script and inserted the two
cut numbers: 'Life Must Go On' and 'One, Two, Three, One'. The
song 'Taken For A Ride' was omitted as it is the only song not
set during the period of the show and therefore would not work
in semi-staged concert style. A few minor script alterations
had to be undertaken due to the same problem.

- propose to Susan Hampshire (Victoria) in Act
I Scene 2
The audience found the show very funny and it stood up extremely
well - most probably because it was written as a period piece.
We were fortunate to have many of the original cast members in
the audience of the first performance and they were interviewed
prior to the show. A transcript of the interviews can be found
in the Follow That Girl pages.
Marion Grimaldi was a joy to work with and she sang so beautifully.
The comparatively young cast loved having her as part of the
company and she was an example to us all.
